Cameron refuses to return Indian jewels

30 July 2010

It wasn't his most shining moment; David Cameron has been urged in an awkward interview on Indian TV to return the fabled Koh-i-noor diamond to India.
After hesitating the prime Minister said no and said it would set a dangerous precedent

The most famous of the Crown Jewels was discovered in India at least 700 years ago, and possibly 5,000 years ago, according to some Hindu scholars.

The 105-carat diamond was presented to Queen Victoria after it was seized by the East India Company in the capture of the Punjab in 1849.
